The Company:
Polar Performance Materials was founded in 2012 and produces ultra-high purity alumina (HPA) using a proprietary low-carbon process. The factory, located in Oakville Canada is powered with electricity generated by Niagara Falls. Polar’s HPA is increasingly necessary to manufacture products used in high growth, high purity semiconductor applications. Other applications include LEDs, lithium-ion batteries, thermal management materials, and technical ceramics utilized in aerospace, medical and industrial systems.

Position Overview
The Data, Systems, and Insights Analyst is responsible for supporting system processes, data quality, business intelligence, reporting, and data governance across business and operational systems. This role focuses on ensuring organizational data is accurate, consistent, well-documented, and effectively translated into reliable reporting and actionable business insights.

The Data, Systems, and Insights Analyst works closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, and external partners to understand how data is created and used, investigate data inconsistencies, maintain reporting solutions, and improve the reliability and accessibility of organizational information. The role also provides opportunities to develop technical capability in cloud data platforms, data modelling, and data pipeline maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Systems & Process Improvements
    • Support effective use of business systems by understanding processes, clarifying requirements, and identifying issues or improvement opportunities.
    • Investigate system and process issues by reproducing problems, gathering evidence, distinguishing data vs process/configuration issues, resolving routine and low-risk items, and escalating where needed.
    • Support testing and implementation of approved changes to systems, integrations, data models, and pipelines, including basic Snowflake model and pipeline maintenance with training, review, documentation, and change control.

  2. Data Quality and Governance
    • Maintain trusted business data by ensuring accurate definitions, consistent documentation, and reliable source data usage.
    • Validate and reconcile ERP and other source-system data to identify missing, duplicate, or inconsistent records and determine whether issues stem from data, definitions, processes, or system configuration.
    • Maintain documentation of data structures, business definitions, KPIs, relationships, lineage, and validation rules, supporting consistent standards across the business.

  3. BI & Reporting
    • Develop and maintain reliable reporting and analysis that translates business requirements and operational data into clear, usable information for decision-making.
    • Build, test, maintain, and improve recurring BI reports and dashboards, translating business requirements into report designs, acceptance criteria, calculations, validation checks, and clearly defined measures.
    • Perform targeted analysis using SQL, spreadsheets, source-system data, Power BI, and other approved tools; validate results against source systems and clearly document data sources, assumptions, definitions, calculations, and known limitations.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Approximately 0–3 years of relevant experience through employment, internship, co-op, research, or substantial academic or project-based experience.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational data concepts, including joins, grouping, null values, keys, relationships, and duplicate detection.
  • Experience using Power BI or a comparable business intelligence and data visualization platform.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate data inconsistencies, validate information, identify potential causes, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to data accuracy, consistency, and detail.
  • Ability to gather business requirements and translate them into reporting, analysis, or operational processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, curiosity, sound judgment, and the ability to learn unfamiliar systems, technologies, and business processes.
  • Experience with cloud data platform (Snowflake), ERP systems (Odoo) and operation data in manufacturing setting is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of DAX, Power Query, semantic modelling; familiarity with Git, Python, dbt, automated data testing is considered an asset.
